Hyundai is working hard so that none of its models become outdated. And this, in turn, means that the range advances at two rates. On the one hand, we have those "important" models such as the Tucson or the Kona that in their latest evolutions have substantially modified their line. On the other hand, we have the i10 or i30 that, being in "less attractive" segments, are updated more lightly. And let's not forget the Hyundai i20.
The Hyundai i20 is one of the most attractive urban segments. With the latest iteration, it caught up with its European rivals in aspects such as exterior and interior design, technological level, safety, and engines. In fact, in its new range, there is no shortage of micro-hybrid versions with very tight consumption. But as we have already said, the passage of time weighs heavily and Hyundai has applied a subtle restyling with which it improves, but do you see the differences?
How is the renewed aesthetic of the stylized Hyundai i20…?
If you compare the renewed i20 with the previous one, you will realize that there are a few changes. Of course, they are successful as in the front grill or the bumper with more sporty air inlets. The bumper and the interior pattern of the rear lights are new as well as the 16 and 17-inch alloy wheels. These changes are completed with new colors for your body such as Lucid Lime Metallic, Lumen Gray Pearl, and Meta Blue Pearl or the two-tone black roof.
And it's interior...?
Behind closed doors, the evolution of the renewed Hyundai i20 is just as subtle. The cockpit is analog with the option of being digital at 10.25 inches and the central touch screen is 10.25 inches. Connectivity with Android and Apple CarPlay is complete, it also has a Bose sound system and wireless charging. Also arriving is the second generation eCall based on the 4G network, over-the-air (OTA) map updates, and USB Type-C ports.
The interior can be customized in Lucid Lime with sports seats and Lucid Lime inserts and stitching. The seams also reach the steering wheel like the moldings to the ventilation outlets or the doors...
The security section also improves with a renewed Smart Sense system. Now comes standard with Forward Collision Assist (FCA) for city, intercity, pedestrian, and now cyclists. It also features Lane Departure Warning (LFA) and optional Rear Cross Traffic Collision Assist (RCCA), Blind Spot Warning (BCA), and Navigation-based Intelligent Cruise Control (NSCC) are available.
How is the mechanical range of the renewed i20…?
Lastly, it is time to talk about the mechanical range of the renewed Hyundai i20. In this section, the South Korean house has not wanted to innovate because it maintains the same offer that it had until now. That is to say, that revolves around the modern block 1.0 T-GDi with soft hybridization of 48 volts offers 100 and 120 CV of power. Its management is by a six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT) or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (7DCT).
According to Hyundai, the iMT manual transmission improves the driving experience. To do this, when the accelerator is released, the iMT system can decouple the engine from the transmission, saving fuel. The reason is due to the entry into the "inertia mode" of the mechanics dragging fewer mechanical components. All in all, the brand announces the arrival of new variants but does not point to what they are, although it is to be expected that the i20 N will be among them.
Lastly, production of the new i20 is scheduled to start in
the third quarter of the year 2023. It will be at Hyundai's technical center
in the Turkish city of Izmit. Therefore, until the date of its commercial debut
in Europe approaches, we will not have its equipment levels or a price list
for, for example, Spain. We will be aware of the news that comes from the brand
and its European division...
