The Future of Transportation: A Look at Elon Musk's Whim Car

Elon Musk announces the arrival of a fancy car, the long-awaited Tesla Roadster, by 2024, adding that the electric supercar will include the SpaceX option.

Six years have passed since the American firm presented the second-generation Tesla Roadster. It was in 2017 and, since then, the electric supercar that came to change the rules at the highest level has not landed on the market. However, Elon Musk has now announced the arrival of his whim car for 2024.

Tesla's chief executive officer not only said when it should hit the roads but also revealed that the car's design and engineering should be completed this year before it goes into production next year.

“We expect to complete the engineering and design of the next-generation Tesla Roadster this year and hopefully start production; this is not a commitment, but we hope to start production next year," Musk said.

"It's not just the icing on the cake, but it's the icing on the icing on the cake, so it's definitely not going to be a huge revenue contributor. It's going to be a modest contributor to profitability, but it's going to be sick!" Tesla CEO.

Elon Musk also confirmed that the Roadster will be offered with an optional package from SpaceX. Not many details are known about this optional package, but it is believed that it will be responsible for the performance and great performance that the most powerful electric car of the American firm will have.

As for the Tesla Roadster, Elon Musk has not revealed its specifications beyond what he announced in 2017. The car was then said to be a fully electric 2+2 convertible with a Targa roof, 10,000 Nm of maximum torque, wheel drive four wheels, a 0 to 100 km/h of 1.9 seconds, and a top speed of 400 km/h. In addition, it announced a range of 1,000 kilometers.

Six years later, already in 2023 and in the absence of Tesla fulfilling what was announced and finally launching the Roadster on the market, we do not know how much of what was said in 2017 will be preserved in the production model. Some reports suggest the car will have a market price of around $200,000.
