Between the disenchantment with public transport, the fact that new cars are getting bigger, so much so that it seems that parking spaces have shrunk, and the progressive implementation of LEZs, choosing a new car for those who need a model affordable to get around the city is increasingly difficult.
For these reasons, city cars should become more popular, as they are practical, affordable, and a good response to the current situation. And undoubtedly the one that best responds to this premise is the Suzuki Ignis.
The Suzuki Ignis is the smallest car in Suzuki's current range. It is only 3.70 m long but offers plenty of space for four people. It has the appearance of a very jovial small SUV and modern equipment.
It offers a pleasant drive (although with somewhat hard steering in maneuvers), is quiet for this segment, and with a certain verve. It also stands out for its cozy interior for four people.
The passenger compartment, a remarkable fact in this segment, has a length-adjustable rear bench that allows for increasing the space for passengers or the capacity of the trunk. Of course, the trunk is only 260 liters (204 with all-wheel drive).
ECO label, low consumption, and complete equipment
It is powered by a 4-cylinder engine associated with a micro-hybrid system, which helps it at low revs to reduce consumption, and allows it to display the DGT's ECO environmental label. It develops 83 CV, weighs just over 900 kg, and approves an average consumption of just 5 l/100 km (5.4 l/100 km for the 4x4 and automatic transmission versions).
It is associated with a manual transmission as standard, while the CVT automatic transmission is optional. It also has a version with all-wheel drive, for that added security in rainy or winter conditions.
The Ignis range starts at 17,805 euros with the GLE trim and culminates at 21,091 euros for the 1.2-wheel drive and GLX trim. Air conditioning, DAB radio, a 7-inch touch screen, compatibility with Apple Car Play, Android Auto, and Mirrorlink as well as Bluetooth connection for mobile phones and cameras are already standard equipment from the entry model rear view.
It also offers electric windows (front), electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, lane departure alerts, driver fatigue alerts, and ISOFIX anchorages for two child seats. The only two options available are metallic paint (340 euros) and two-tone paint (550 euros).
The GLX finish, from 18,890 euros, adds automatic climate control, electric rear windows, and a browser. This version is undoubtedly the most complete. As for the automatic transmission, only available with the GLX finish and front-wheel drive, it costs a supplement of 1,890 euros.
Among the alternatives to the Suzuki Ignis, we find the eternal Fiat 500 (from 13,787 euros), but its rear seats are really small and the driving position, very upright, is not to everyone's taste. Also, the Fiat Panda (from 12,229 euros) is presented as a good alternative, with a 70 CV engine and ECO label, although its finishes and presentation are more austere than the Suzuki.
