Comparing the Features of Skoda Karoq and Mazda CX-30

Which is better, the Skoda Karoq or the Mazda CX-30? We analyze these two compact SUVs and determine which is the best purchase option in 2023.

Compact SUVs, together with segment B, are the most popular, accumulating most of the market sales. For this reason, manufacturers usually bet on this type of vehicle and expand their offer with new models. Today we want to face two interesting options if you are thinking of buying a compact SUV in 2023: Skoda Karoq or Mazda CX-30.

In order to determine which is the best purchase, we are going to carry out a technical comparison based strictly on official approved data. We will analyze sections such as dimensions, trunk, engines, standard equipment, and prices. Finally, we will present the strengths of each model in the conclusions section.

Dimensions

We start with the Skoda Karoq. The compact SUV of the Czech firm was recently renewed through a restyling of what is still its first generation. In terms of measurements, the Karoq has a body that is 4,390 mm long, 1,840 mm wide, and 1,605 mm high, as well as a wheelbase that reaches 2,640 mm.

For its part, the Mazda CX-30 occupies the same place in the range of the Japanese manufacturer as the Karoq. Its measurements include 4,395mm in length, 1,795mm in width, and 1,540mm in height, all with a platform that features a 2,655mm wheelbase.

Trunk

As for the trunk, which is one of the key points in the purchase decision process when it comes to an SUV, we have the Skoda model with a 520-liter cargo compartment that can reach 1,630 liters once it is lowered. the backs of the rear seats.

In the case of the Mazda model, we find a trunk slightly smaller than that of its rival, although it retains a volumetric capacity of 430 liters and, once the rear seats are folded, 1,405 liters.

Engines

The range of engines for the Skoda Karoq includes gasoline units such as the 1.0 TSI with 110 CV, the 1.5 TSI with 150 CV, and the 2.0 TSI with 190 CV. There are also diesel models based on the well-known 2.0 TDI, with 116 hp and 150 hp. Transmissions are either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic. There are front-wheel drive and 4x4 models.

Meanwhile, the Mazda CX-30 comes with two gasoline engines with Mild Hybrid technology and the DGT ECO label. Both are based on the 2.0-liter block and naturally aspirated, with 122 CV and 186 CV of power. The gearbox can be manual or automatic with a torque converter, both six-speed, while the drive is front or integral.

Standard equipment

As for the standard equipment of the Karoq (Ambition finish) we find climate control, multimedia system with touch screen, parking sensors, voice control, fatigue detector, rearview camera, cruise control, hill start assistant, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, emergency braking, and 16-inch wheels, among many others.

In the case of the CX-30 (Origin finish), the 16-inch wheels, intelligent speed assistant, dual-zone climate control, blind spot control, rear traffic detector, adaptive cruise control, LED headlights, rear parking sensors, and assistant stand out. the braking system with pedestrian recognition, automatic high beams, and a multimedia system with navigation.

Prices

The price of the Skoda Karoq starts from 31,125 euros for the Ambition version together with the 110 hp 1.0 TSI engine with a six-speed manual transmission and C label.

For its part, the Mazda CX-30 has a starting price in Spain of 30,086 euros in the Origin version together with the 122 hp Mild Hybrid 2.0 e-Skyactiv G engine, six-speed manual transmission, and ECO label.

Conclusion

If we compare the measurements, the Skoda Karoq is 5 mm shorter, 45 mm wider, and 65 mm taller than the Mazda CX-30, although it also has a 15 mm less wheelbase. However, the trunk of the Skoda has 90 liters more volumetric capacity with five seats available and 225 liters more if the rear seatbacks are folded down.

The range of engines is wider and more varied in the Skoda, with five mechanics between gasoline and diesel units. However, there is no electrified model within the range, something that Mazda has managed to cover well with Mild Hybrid engines and its ECO label, which may be one of its great claims.

Similarly, the standard equipment in the Mazda is slightly more complete than in the Skoda, highlighting above all the wide range of security systems and driving assistants that it offers even in the range of access versions.

Finally, the difference in price is about 1,000 euros in favor of the CX-30, which also has an ECO label and more standard equipment. However, you will have to sacrifice some trunk if you finally opt for the Mazda SUV instead of the Skoda Karoq.
