First Impressions of the Porsche Cayenne S Coupé Facelift

A V8-powered SUV, sensationally agile on the road and with an all-new interior: we tested the 2023 Porsche Cayenne S Coupé

If you want to play at the top, you have to keep up technologically. The Porsche Cayenne S Coupé receives a facelift that includes a new cockpit, new chassis, and new engines. And we are going to tell you how this myriad of novelties feels... behind the wheel.

Resignation is a word that doesn't really fit Porsche. Neither the brand itself nor the customers. The fact that both the Cayenne Turbo and the 640 hp Turbo GT are no longer available in the EU does not seem to please most putschists.

Interior design

Adapting the twin-turbo V8 to strict emissions standards "was simply not economically viable." The good news: they have refreshed the third generation of the Cayenne four years after the market launch so extensively that one could almost speak of a completely new model, especially in the interior.

The completely redone cockpit is very reminiscent of the Porsche Taycan. The SUV's new instrument cluster, with its curved design and 12.3-inch center screen, comes standard, and Porsche also installs a passenger screen as an option. It is not visible from the driver's point of view, so the passenger can also see the performance data or, directly, series and movies from his position.

Cayenne engine: 474 hp twin-turbo V8

From 2,000 revolutions it pushes up to 600 Nm on the crankshaft, develops its 474 hp linearly, and works perfectly with the eight-speed automatic transmission, very alert and agile. In numbers, that means: 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and 273 km/h on top.

Sound? It hammers when you have your right foot down, and mutters in intermittent traffic. New: the hardness and ride height can now be set and saved separately in each of the four riding modes. And Porsche has “sharpened” the suspension and shock absorbers.

The PASM, that is to say, the adaptive chassis, is now standard. Optionally, the air suspension can be installed, which now works on two-valve technology. It has the advantage that the compression and rebound can be individually adjusted by the electronics.

They are also especially proud of the new HD matrix light, which has more than 32,000 individual pixels per headlamp. Just one of the many features is the "bottleneck light", which can represent a carpet of light in front of the Cayenne, for example, that is as wide as the car.

Factors to decide the purchase

The Cayenne costs a lot of money, around a base €90,000, but it's also sensationally agile for a car that weighs almost 2.2 tons and is nearly five meters long.

Assessment

The best

Space, motor V8 performance, behavior, finishes.

Worst

An exorbitant price, but what could be expected from such a car?
