Kia Tasman: Will the new pickup from the Korean house be called that?

The pickup segment will not stop growing in the coming years. As you well know, there are many brands that want to enter it because it is one of the most lucrative segments. Indeed, it is together with the SUV the one that gives the most economic revenue for each unit sold. And depending on which areas it is a round business that the firms do not want to give up. And it may be that a new member will arrive very soon, who would be called Kia Tasman…

As you already know, Kia is a global generalist firm. But in recent years we have seen how their models have not only improved significantly over their predecessors but also over their rivals. And this is largely due to electrification with examples like the impressive EV6. Also because its offer expands into segments in which it was not present before and that of pickups is a new one that they want to explore. And the Tasman would be the key...

The trade name Kia Tasman has been registered among other countries in Australia, New Zealand and France...

If you do a little memory you will remember that we already told you about Kia's plans for the pickup segment. Those responsible for the South Korean house want to have not one, but two models of this type in some of the most important markets for these vehicles. And we saw the proof that they are already working on the first one months ago when some spy photos captured what looked like a test mule carrying out a test.

Well, it seems that the brand's work would have continued but on other fronts. In this case, it has been in the legal team since they have been in charge of registering the trade name Kia Tasman. The problem is that they have left such a long trail that the "surprise" has been eviscerated on all sides. In fact, they have gone to several patent and trademark offices such as Australia, New Zealand, France, Uruguay, and Costa Rica...

And after reading this, you may wonder, what will the new Tasman be like? Well, the first thing to indicate is that the fact that this name sees the light of day is still unknown, but not what the technique of this hypothetical pickup would be like. According to various sources, it would be a model on a ladder frame equipped with a diesel engine. The reason for choosing this combination is simple: emerging markets + high load capacity + no CO2 standards…

But if so, could it reach all the markets in which it has been registered...?

Taking into account that the technical configuration of the Tasman would not be the most suitable for Europe, the following question may arise: could it be sold on the Old Continent? Well, there are many doubts about it and they are due to the fact that there is a legal protection file on a commercial name in France. Of course, Kia wants to reserve this name in France does not have to be directly related to a hypothetical sale in this country, right?

In any case, several sources suggest that it will be sold in Australia, New Zealand, Uruguay, or Costa Rica. But the most "accurate" rumors suggest that the electric pickup would arrive in Europe where they would be working. For this reason, we will have to wait for Kia to rule and announce the launch plan for both models. Be that as it may, the Tasman could see the light of day in a couple of years in conceptual form ready to reach production.
