The Future of Electric Cars: A Look at the Renault H1st Vision

The H1stvision is an electric concept car developed by Software République, "an open innovation ecosystem for smart, safe and sustainable mobility" whose aim is "to incubate true industrial projects that help make Europe a leading hub for future mobility ». Renault Group is one of the six founding companies, along with Atos, DassaultSystèmes, Orange, STMicroelectronics, and Thales.

User identification

Access to H1stvisión is done without the need to carry a key, remote control or any device. Some cameras placed in the rear-view mirrors recognize the way of walking from about six meters away; when this coincides with the one previously registered (you need to provide a walking video, a photo of the face, the name, and the height), the cameras installed in the central pillar are activated and identify the face. A projector placed on the headrest projects the avatar of Software République on the rear window, which greets the user by his name and asks if he wants to enter. He has to respond by speaking for the door to open.

The avatar is then displayed in the frame, and a fifth camera—this one mounted on the windshield—recognizes the occupants and positions the seats accordingly. This authentication system is especially useful in rental cars or fleets.

Sound system

The H1stvisión audio equipment is made up of a 16-speaker system. They are distributed as follows: a woofer in each door, a tweeter in the front, two surround tweeters in each headrest, a central speaker, and a subwoofer. Renault says that it is a system that evolved thanks to the signal processing of the specialist Arkamys and the collaboration of the musician Jean-Michel Jarre.

In addition to playing music, the speakers are used for other purposes. The examples that Renault cites are that those of the headrest is used so that each passenger can have an independent telephone conversation or that those of the driver alert him to the presence of an emergency vehicle.

Mobility services: parking and charging

There are three parking-related functions: parking location in the place closest to the destination (using sensors and data from other vehicles and mobile service operators); faster combination, which proposes parking next to a means of public transport of any kind (bus, subway, bicycles, etc.); cheaper parking.

All these services and electric recharges can be contracted and paid for in advance through a digital messaging system (chatbot). Payment is made by Mobilize Wallet.

Shared data

The H1stvisión “permanently processes the data it obtains in real time from the entire connected ecosystem and the archived data. Its software platform collects, shares, and analyzes information from city and highway 4.0 networks, and from other vehicles and road users, weather data, etc.” According to Renault, it can anticipate dangerous points using statistics on accidents, type of road, and weather data, or provide information to other nearby vehicles.

H1stvision Health

Various "virtual sensors" control the wear of elements such as the battery, brakes, tires, or transmission in real time, complementing the usual physical sensors. With this information, you can find out the current status of the H1stvisión as well as make an estimate of when the next maintenance is due.

The H1stvisión health certificate is generated in an NFT (non-fungible token or non-manipulable digital certificate) with blockchain technology, along with other relevant information about the life of the vehicle (owners, reviews, repairs, etc.).

Driver health

Not only the state of the car is controlled, but several sensors installed in the H1stvisión also monitor the state of health of the driver. Those behind the wheel, the heart rate. The one with the belt, breathing. The vehicle compares the data and when it detects anomalies it gives advice on adjusting the lighting and air conditioning. The monitored data can be sent, with prior authorization, to a medical center. H1stvisión has a satellite telephone system that allows emergency calls to be made when there is no coverage of conventional mobile lines.

Additionally, the camera and the interior microphone analyze the driver's mood. If he detects nervousness, he will suggest relaxation exercises.
