The Impact of Euro 7 on Volkswagen's Iconic Golf Model

Volkswagen has made an important decision that will mark the future of its popular compact. A decision was driven by the Euro 7 regulations that will affect the Volkswagen Golf. It will be effective in the year 2024 and, unfortunately, most purists will not like it. In addition, it will have direct repercussions on prices.

The future of the Volkswagen Golf, and the rest of the cars with an internal combustion engine, is linked to the Euro 7 regulations. The iconic Volkswagen compact must prepare for the entry into force of a regulation that will mark a before and after in the industry European automotive. The Euro 7 standard is already described as "the previous stop" at the end of the trip. A journey that takes us directly to the year 2035.

Very important changes are coming for our automotive sector, and that is why Volkswagen has made a decision about the future of the Golf. A decision that will become effective in a short time and that will mark the commercial future of the model that for years has led the ranking of best-selling cars in Europe. And unfortunately, this is bad news for the most purists.

The Volkswagen Golf will no longer be available with manual transmission

The information to which the specialized media Autocar has had access reveals Volkswagen's intentions with regard to the renewal that the Golf will undergo. It is important to remember that the development process of the new Volkswagen Golf 2024 is currently underway. The German manufacturer is working on a facelift as a mid-cycle update that will allow this generation, the eighth, to be able to face the rest of his commercial life that lies ahead.

The company debut of the new Golf is scheduled for next year. It will debut numerous novelties in terms of exterior design, technological equipment, and mechanics. And it is precisely in the mechanical section where Volkswagen has been forced to carry out an adjustment. An adjustment will materialize in the event that the Euro 7 regulation enters into force in its current proposal.

Volkswagen will remove the manual transmission from the Golf range. Therefore, its popular compact will become available exclusively with a DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. A decision that not only affects the conventional model. The Volkswagen Golf GTI will also have to say goodbye to this type of transmission, which is still highly sought after today. Especially for most purists.

The Euro 7 standard forces Volkswagen to eliminate the manual Golf

Kai Grünitz, Head of Technical Development at Volkswagen, assured that in the future ninth generation of the Golf there will only be versions with an automatic gearbox: "With the next generation of the Golf, there will not be one with a manual gearbox." The senior Volkswagen official added that this decision has been made for emissions compliance reasons.

But it's not just bad news for purist fans. If the manual versions of the Golf finally disappear, we will witness a price increase. The cheapest Golf that we can find in dealerships is equipped with a manual gearbox and starts at €29,350. A price that increases to €31,040 in the case of the most affordable automatic Golf.
