The new Aston Martin DB12 is all elegance and sportiness with a 680 HP twin turbo V8

Aston Martin DB12. The world's first super tourism. This is how the press dossier of the new model that the British firm has just presented begins, a beautiful supercar with 680 HP of power that is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and flying at ground level. with the usual elegance and sportiness of Gaydon creations up to a top speed of 325 km/h. But there is much more. We tell you.

Gran Turismo was not enough to demonize this new car, and that is why Aston Martin has preferred to refer to it as Superturismo since they say that it is a car that constitutes a new category due to the driving experience it offers, the technology it includes and the level of luxury that it has.

Under its imposing hood is a twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 680 hp and 800 Nm of torque. This new model highlights a suspension system that includes state-of-the-art intelligent shock absorbers, a key part of ensuring control and connection with the driver, which is also reinforced with an assisted steering system (EPAS) that stands out for its precision. and for how direct it is, as well as an electronic rear differential (E-Diff) that improves agility.

Advanced electronics in the DB12

There are five riding modes and the ESP offers four preset modes (Wet, On, Circuit, and Off) to suit different circumstances and conditions, ensuring that you can get the most out of that cavalry and torque, a 34% higher than that offered by the previous DB11. This increase is achieved thanks to significant modifications to the engine, for example, with the use of larger turbos. The cooling system is also new.

The sequential automatic gearbox has 8 speeds and a recalibration has been applied that allows faster acceleration from a standstill and gets the most out of each gear.

The DB12's aluminum frame offers 7% more torsional rigidity than the DB11. This improvement is achieved with changes in various components of the underbody, a transversal reinforcement of the engine, the protection panels (front and rear) of the underbody, the front cross member, and the rear bulkhead.

This improvement in torsional rigidity and lateral stiffness (particularly between the front and rear towers), makes the shock absorber mounting points and the rear axle stronger and more stable.

The DB12 arrives in the year in which the 110 years of the brand and the 75 years of the DB are celebrated

The car has a new generation of intelligent dampers that allow it to achieve a 500% increase in the bandwidth of the distribution of forces.

The new DB12 comes standard with 400 mm cast-iron discs on the front axle and 360 mm on the rear axle, but as an option it allows mounting ceramic brakes reinforced with carbon fiber (CCB).

These improve braking performance and reduce the loss of braking power at temperatures above 800 °C. As if that were not enough, they reduce unsprung mass by 27 kg compared to the standard brake system.

The DB12 comes standard with 21-inch forged alloy wheels (9.5J on the front axle and 10.5J on the rear axle). There are three different designs of these wheels that are 8 kg lighter than their 20-inch predecessors.

If we compare the exterior dimensions of the car with those of the DB11, that extra 6 mm in front track width and 22 mm in rear track width stand out.

Inside, for the first time, Aston Martin entrusts the surround sound system to Bowers & Wilkins.

Among the details of quality and refinement, mention should be made of the hand-stitched Bridge of Weir aromatic leather used to upholster the interior.

Of course, at a technological level, it allows wireless use of the Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™* applications, and manages it through a new integrated multi-screen system, with high-resolution 10.25-inch screens (1970 x 720) with a Pure finish. Black, which offers capacitive touch control with ultra-fast response (30ms reaction time).

Despite the greater presence of the screens, the DB12 continues to mount buttons for some basic mechanical operations, such as gear selection, driving mode selection, heating, or ventilation.

On sale at the end of the year

The new Aston Martin DB12 will go on sale in the third quarter of 2023 and at the moment we do not know what its price is in Spain.
