The new intelligent technologies that are going to change the automobile and that Kia launches in its cars

More connectivity, new charging systems, greater efficiency, and full use of electrical energy are the technologies that will dominate the automobile in the coming years. Kia already announces them for its new cars. We tell you all!

Kia looks to the future already today. The Korean brand, with a clear growth in sales worldwide and with an ever-growing range of zero-emission cars, both plug-in hybrids, and electric, has presented in the last few hours a set of revolutionary and intelligent technologies that aim to the mobility of all its new electric cars is more comfortable, more accessible and more efficient than ever. Some of them we have been telling you in recent months, but others are completely new.

And it is that under names such as Kia Connect, Kia Charge or Kia Smart Charging, among other systems, the Asian manufacturer presents new V1G unidirectional charging technologies, for supplying electricity from the vehicle to the home or building and supplying the vehicle to the grid electricity, among other advanced features. According to the brand, "offering the next generation of sustainable mobility solutions implies the perfect and holistic interaction of electrification, connectivity, and new services", as stated by SjoerdKnipping, Vice President of Marketing and Product of Kia Europe.

THIS IS WHAT CARS ARE FULLY CONNECTED AND UPDATED IN REAL-TIME

Thus, starting with the newly introduced EV9 large SUV, Kia announces new 100% electric vehicles that are fully connected and ready for the future, in order to allow them to be updated as innovations and new functions become available. It is what the brand calls “new software-defined vehicles”. But let's go by parts to know some of these great innovations.

For starters, Kia advertises maximum connectivity with its new Kia Connect systems, which promotes an "always-on connection between the vehicle, Kia's servers, and data providers." The manufacturer thus promises the best customer experience, always providing its owners with updates and information in real-time, through the Connected Car Cloud.

With this system, Kia also promises to facilitate the search for available charging stations and the prediction of car maintenance at all times, also allowing more efficient fleet management and better response times in cases of emergency. Thus accessing the Kia Connect Store, the brand announces a new space to acquire all the improvements for the cars, allowing them to be updated continuously.

The EV9 will be the first vehicle to benefit from this system, as well as the first car in the range to feature the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (CCNC), equipped with dual-band GPS to improve location accuracy. Maps, interfaces, and software improvements will be updated remotely, also offering the vehicle the new EV Route Planner function, capable of suggesting the best charging points based on the vehicle's battery level along the route.

MORE FUNCTIONS: ACCESS TO THE ENTIRE CAR CHARGING NETWORK

Another great novelty that the brand has presented is the Kia Charge application, which gives access to an extensive network of charging points for the car from a single device and consists of more than half a million chargers in 28 countries. A service that will continue to grow, thanks to new pan-European partnerships with Ionity and Digital Charging Solutions (DCS), as well as with local electricity providers.

But if there is an innovation that is surprising, and that we already told you about a few days ago, it is the so-called Kia Smart Charging, capable of taking advantage of all the energy capacity of electric vehicles. It is about taking advantage of bidirectional charging and with it the use of energy for any other service, electricity flowing in both directions, in and out of the vehicle.

THE CAR, IS A VIRTUAL POWER STATION THAT POWERS DEVICES, HOUSES, AND EVEN VILLAGES

With this, the Kia EV9 can already carry out functions of one-way intelligent charging (V1G), supplying electricity to devices (V2L), to the home or to the building (V2H/B) or even to the V2G electrical network. With the new V2L function, for example, both the Kia EV6 and EV9 can now power 110/220V appliances with the vehicle's battery, plugging the cable into the charging port.

With the V2B and V2H system, the vehicle can also supply energy to a building or the owner's home, achieving, for example, that a new Kia EV9 charged with a 99.8 kWh battery can supply energy to a home for between 5 and 10 days. This SUV, in addition, can now even store energy obtained from renewable sources and return it to the electricity grid when the sun does not shine or the wind does not blow. This will help to stabilize the grid, according to Kia, with the car now acting almost like a virtual power station and providing, along with other vehicles, potentially enough power to supply towns and cities for a certain period of time.

Finally, Kia promises that all these technologies will be implemented in its next market launch plan, which is already announced with up to 15 new electric vehicles until 2027.
