The low autonomy of the Mazda MX-30 forced the Japanese brand to rethink the concept of its electric crossover to increase its competitiveness. Those from Hiroshima opted for a new generation plug-in hybrid that is unique in the market, by using a rotary engine on the thermal side. A model already on sale has now started production.
A year ago the Mazda MX-30 received a package of novelties to make this crossover more seductive, which was born as a commitment to zero emissions. However, after two years of sale, the manufacturer admitted that the low autonomy was not up to its price, far surpassed by its rivals. A compromised situation that the Japanese brand has resolved with the introduction of a second electrified version.
The Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV is not just another model in the electric range, but a plug-in hybrid with unprecedented technology on the market because, for the first time, it combines an electric motor with another Wankel that he decided to abandon with the latest generation of the RX-8 sports car. A model that, despite being on sale since the beginning of the year, has now been when the brand has started production, so this most interesting Mazda MX-30 will begin to reach European dealers after the summer.
The PHEV version of the Mazda MX-30 arrives at the end of summer
The role of the rotary motor, integrated into a generator, is strictly to act as an energy extender, while the electric motor yields a maximum power of 125 kW, equivalent to 170 CV, and the one that works by default as soon as the engine is started. With a 50-liter fuel tank and a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery that provides power to cover journeys of up to 85 kilometers in zero-emission mode, the MX-30 is ideal not only for those who travel short distances on a daily basis but also to face trips.
Mazda has also installed a powerful onboard charger that features three-phase power, which supports fast charging up to 11 kW, so it takes just an hour and a half to fully recharge its completely discharged battery. Advantages that, certain markets such as Germany, benefit from a lower circulation tax and Spain from having a Zero label from the DGT.

The new Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV is on sale, with five trim levels, all more than loaded with technology and comfort and connectivity components for the five passengers. In addition, it debuts a two-tone paint scheme not available on any other model, giving it a sleeker, more sophisticated look with a gloss black body and body pillars and roof in a shade of red with brown undertones.
