Unleashing the Power of the Audi Q8 e-tronquattro facelift

Audi changes the name "e-tron" to "Q8 55 e-Tron Quattro" and takes the opportunity to update its electric SUV. We have already driven it, and these are our impressions

Audi now calls the e-tron "Q8", and the fact that they give it the eight is consistent because with 4.91 meters it is above the Q4 and an expected Q6.

Interior design

And it is difficult to talk about the lack of space in an Audi Q8 55 e-tron. This applies to both the front seats and the second row, where there is plenty of air, although the driver and passenger are actually more comfortable in the individual sports seats than those in the second row.

And it is that the rear passengers of the SUV are comfortable... unless they are looking for a USB port to charge electronic devices. There isn't, but there is a 12-volt plug. This is just as amazing as the plastic covers on the door panels. And it is that our test unit far exceeds 90,000 euros.

Better save yourself the mirror cameras

You can save around 1,600 euros by doing without the camera in the exterior mirrors, which transmit its image to a monitor in the door panels. A less than optimal invention for several reasons: instead of looking left and right in the side mirror, you have to lower your head. The projected image shows an image in which it is difficult to estimate the speed of vehicles approaching from behind.

Navigation through the menus of the two touch screens in the center console is also not ideal. Of course, to be able to use the lower monitor, which is mainly used to operate climate control, Audi has invented a very nice palm rest.

This is also useful when the bottom touchpad becomes the writing surface for browsing data. For safety reasons, the digital keypad required while driving is not provided. So you scribble the letters while your gaze is divided between the road, the work with your fingers, and the navigation display on the screen.

Voice control is correct, and although there are still some misunderstandings, in principle the driver can change the temperature or say the destination of the trip for sure.

If you like it simple, sync your smartphone via Bluetooth and use your own navigation apps.

Engine and behavior of the Audi Q8 55 e-tron

These weaknesses of the Q8 can be offset by its driving skills. As for the engine, nothing has changed compared to the predecessor. One on the front axle and one on the rear axle ensure not only all-wheel drive but also a system output of 408 PS and a maximum torque of 664 Nm.

A combination that pushes the 2.6-tonne electric from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, and reaches a limited speed of 200 km/h.

And not only does it accelerate quickly, but thanks to its air suspension with controlled dampers and very direct steering, it plows over anything that gets in the way with absolute agility. And only the hum of the electric motors reaches the interior, otherwise, it is very quiet.

We must not remain silent about average consumption. According to our measurements, it allowed a total autonomy of 427 kilometers. At a fast charging station, the 170 kW battery with a net power of 106 kWh can be charged from 10 to 80% in about 30 minutes.

By the way: the trunk, from 469 to 1,637 liters, confirms the suitability of this electric car for daily use... as long as you can pay more than 85,000 euros for the basic model, without a single extra.

Factors to decide the purchase

The Audi Q8 55 e-tron has improved in small but crucial details. Now it promises even more driving pleasure and great suitability for everyday use. What has remained, yes, is a very high price.
