The BMW CE 04 is the commitment to the two-wheeled electric vehicle compatible with the car license and A2 of the German manufacturer. What rivals can you face?
The BMW CE 04 goes a little further than a mere scooter, electric or not. It represents a risky bet to offer a different and identity product... and in good faith that they have achieved it. It doesn't look like anything and attracts a lot of attention wherever it goes, in addition to the practical aspect that is almost completely covered for the urban user.
Of course, in a "device" with similar characteristics, different aspects influence when considering its purchase. In the test, I commented on it as the day-to-day vicissitudes arose. The truth is that if you need an electric two-wheeled vehicle to move around your city and suburbs, autonomy and price will be vital; We already dealt with the first, so let's now see the second and try to find rivals for it, which, as you will understand, is not exactly an easy task.
BMW CE 04: price and possible rivals
A BMW CE 04 costs, according to the official rate, €12,050, both in the free A2 version and limited to 11kW for the B license. But keep in mind that it is BMW and its finance company works very well making promotions and offers that bring you very close to the possibility to get on their motorcycles. And the truth is that there is almost nothing comparable to this scooter...
If what attracts you is its electric motor, perhaps, at a similar price, you may be interested in other options of a more "motorbike" type and, therefore, at a given moment, less practical.
That could be the case of the American Zero. It's Zero FX ZF 7.2 trail or Zero FXE supermotard versions deliver a maximum of 45 CV, similar to the BMW, but seek more fun for the pilot than utility at prices slightly above, specifically €15,165 for either one.
If you are looking for exclusivity, Cake, in its Cake Kalk INK& version, comes out at 12,580 euros with its minimalist lines between bicycle, motorcycle, and "Swedish furniture", as striking as the BMW. But be careful, because if you are looking for something "full power" it is at another level of benefits, with 14 CV (10 kW), more similar to the A1/B version of the BMW.
Even for the price, why not try the quintessential field electric? A KTM Freeride E-XC starts at €11,799 and delivers 18 kW with plenty of torque and lightness. Finally, an almost collector's option is the Spanish Pursang e-Track, a motorcycle assembled in short series of 11 kW and a certain "flat track" style that costs €13,990.
As you can see, if the goal is to focus on electric scooters, directly, none is 100% comparable to something as exclusive and powerful as the BMW. Of course, if "someone" approaches you, it is the also Spanish Ray 7.7, a scooter with a 7.7 kWh battery (the BMW I remind you that it is 8.5 kWh) that you can drive with a car license, equaling the BMW in version A1 and that also goes to a peak power of 20 CV.
He is capable of running the same as the German although not accelerating like him, with similar equipment and other points in his favor, such as the height-adjustable seat or the original kickstand that manages to get the bike on without getting off and without effort. using reverse. The Ray costs right now, officially €8,500, that is, it is cheaper and now it can be financed in a similar way. A tough rival for the BMW.
Two scooters that we have tested and that have caught our attention are, on the one hand, the Nerva EXE, a scooter that works very well and whose figures for autonomy, load, performance, and others can be considered very correct; At the same time, it is original when it comes to being marketed: Nerva announces it at only 3,380 euros, a discount for the Moves plan included, of course, €4,480 without that discount, that is, an almost ridiculous price compared to the previous ones, and even more so considering its GT body. and remarkable equipment.
But yes, the battery is not included and the offer is to rent it for a monthly fee, which is now €39.90 for 5 years.
More striking is one of the last to arrive, also recently tested by formulamoto.es: Segway E300SE. The well-known brand of those "PT" has entered the world of scooters and its superior model has surprised us. With a price of only €3,799 and 14 CV, it is capable of driving over 100 km/h with considerable autonomy and striking equipment.
An option not very comparable to the most expensive and sophisticated "big electrics", but highly recommended as daily citizen transport.
And in any list that talks about electric scooters, it must be the leader in its two "lives": Silence S01 (€6,680) and SEAT MòeScooter 125 (€5,950). The two scooters are the same, with few differences in equipment and aesthetics. They offer 10 CV, a removable battery in an original "trolley" that you drag from a folding handle, and significant sales of the S02 model, thanks to Acciona's "moto sharing" service. In reality, it is hardly comparable to BMW in a direct way.
