Dacia does not rule out revolutionizing the market for electric cars without a license with a rival for the Citroën Ami

Dacia opens the door to its entry into the electric car market without a license with a model to rival the Citroën Ami. A high load of cheap car brands indicates the need to take advantage of the rapid growth that urban mobility is experiencing. This hypothetical vehicle, a quadricycle, will be positioned as the “little brother of the Dacia Spring.

Dacia is in the process of expansion. The successful cheap car brand is working on an ambitious product offensive that includes a significant list of novelties. After consolidating itself in the competitive B segment, the Romanian company has decided to do the same in a higher category. The Jogger is just the beginning of what is to come. On the horizon is the new generation of the Duster and, as if that were not enough, the new Dacia Bigster.

The strategic plan established thanks to the support of the Renault Group will culminate after the year 2025. The "final bombshell" will be a totally new and unexpected model. In the Dacia "headquarters" they are working on a vehicle with which to break into the D segment in style. A very important category for generalist firms. The largest and most expensive Dacia in history will be a reality in 2026.

Dacia does not rule out a rival for the Citroën Ami

Although Dacia prepares larger (and therefore more expensive) vehicles, the company does not forget about the "lower categories". And more specifically in the urban electric vehicle market. This is what David Durand himself, Dacia's Head of Design, points out in a statement to the specialized media Autocar. The high position of the brand pointed out the need to take advantage of the rapid growth that urban mobility is experiencing.

"Why do you need a car in the center of the city?" Durand asked in relation to the use of cars in the most congested urban environments. However, he also recognized that public transport does not work for everyone and that bicycles are not a valid mobility solution for a large part of citizens either. "Two wheels, for many people, is dangerous," he warned.

This is where the incipient market for electric cars without a license enters the scene. The unexpected commercial success that the Citroën Ami is obtaining has forced many car brands to rethink their strategy in the interior "categories" of the A segment. When asked if Dacia plans a rival for the Citroën Ami, Durand assured that they are considering all options: "We are considering everything."

The "little brother" of the Dacia Spring

Citroën has hit the key when it comes to assaulting the light quadricycle market. The Ami is one of the most affordable electric vehicles that we can find in Europe. And since it is not a car, it does not need certain equipment such as advanced driving assistance systems or even air conditioning. Citroën has shown that it is possible to gain a foothold in a category that has clearly been dominated by Aixam and Ligier.

In the hypothetical case that Dacia launches a rival for the Citroën quad, the entry on the scene of the "little brother" of the Dacia Spring will materialize. It is important to remember that the Spring is the smallest Dacia car. A tiny SUV is 3.73 meters long with four seats.

It remains to be seen if Dacia finally decides to offer an alternative below the aforementioned Spring. By being part of the Renault Group, you can benefit from the developments that are taking place at Mobilize. And more specifically the Mobilize Duo, a two-seater electric quadricycle with up to 140 kilometers of autonomy.
