Two years after the launch of the CE 04, BMW wanted to extend the avant-garde formula seen in its electric scooter with the new CE 02. Combining elements of conventional scooters and motorcycles, it will be available with powers of 4 and 11 kW, respectively.
Taking advantage of the two years that have passed since the BMW CE 04 was presented to add one more member to its modern family of electric scooters. But, unlike its older brother, the new BMW CE 02 -said by the Germans themselves- is not included in the segment of scooters or electric motorcycles, but has a place in its own segment called 'eParkourer'.
Do you remember the Gilera DNA? Its shapes were reminiscent of a conventional motorcycle, but it was powered by a single-cylinder block, in 49, 125, and 180cc versions, associated with a continuous variation. BMW wanted to explore this rare concept with the CE 02 as an attractive and efficient transport tool for the young public.
As you can see in the images, the design has been reduced to the minimum expression. The BMW CE 02 does not have fairings beyond the front and rear fenders and some side covers where the new model nomenclature appears. Those who want it can add a touch more appeal with the optional Highline package, which includes a gold-finished front fork and a stripe design on the sides.
With two versions: moped and motorcycle
To reach the maximum number of young drivers, the new BMW CE 02 has also opted for two versions: moped and conventional motorcycle. Both have the same mechanical configuration, that is, an engine installed in the central part of the chassis, but while the first variant offers a power of 4 kW and a maximum speed of 45 km/h; the second raises power to 11 kW and its speed ceiling reaches 95 km/h. Of course, both versions display 55 Nm of maximum torque.
Likewise, the CE 02 has two driving modes, Flow and Surf. The first has been designed for the circulation of the city, while the second displays all the power of the model. Optionally, a Flash mode can be added that further enhances the dynamic qualities of the CE 02. To this, systems such as stability control and traction control are added.
Both versions are equipped with a 3.92 kWh capacity battery, which provides a range of 45 km on the moped and 90 km on the motorcycle. In terms of recharging, using the 1.5 kW fast charger, the CE 02 takes just over an hour and a half for 80% of the charge in the 11 kW version, while the moped version, only equipped with the 0.9 kW series, requires 85 minutes.
Light to be electric
At the level of the cycle part, the new zero-emission model from BMW presents a steel tube frame in combination with a 117 mm-travel front fork and a mono-shock with 56 mm of travel and the possibility of adjusting the spring preload. For the brake equipment, a two-piston caliper and a 239 mm disc in the front end have been relied on. Behind, we find a single-piston caliper and a 220mm disc. This is completed with 14-inch wheels fitted with tires in sizes 120/80 and 150/70.
With a seat height of 750 mm and a weight of 119 kg -132 kg in the motorcycle version-, the BMW CE 02 can be driven by any biker, regardless of their size. The equipment is completed by an LED lighting system, TFT color screen, USB-C charging port, or the possibility of linking the mobile phone through the BMW Motorrad Connected app.
