Peugeot
has presented in society the long-awaited renewal of its successful utility.
The new Peugeot 208 has burst onto the scene loaded with novelties. It debuts
exterior design, technological equipment, and new electrification technologies
to display the DGT ECO label.
After a
significant number of sightings during its development phase, we can say that
the wait is over. Peugeot has officially unveiled its renewed utility. The new
Peugeot 208 bursts onto the scene loaded with very important innovations. The
model that holds the title of best-selling car in Europe has received a
facelift. A mid-cycle update will allow this generation, the second, to be
able to face the rest of the commercial life that lies ahead.
He has
suffered a facelift. It debuts exterior design, technological equipment, and
improvements in terms of mechanics. The latter is something key if we take into
account the new times in Europe. As we will see later in this article, the new
208 will have light hybrid versions (MHEV) with which to gain access to the
demanded ECO environmental label of the DGT (General Directorate of Traffic).
Let's Analyze the Primary Keys
The
design of the new Peugeot 208 2024
Just
take a quick look at the images that illustrate this article to discover how
the Peugeot utility has changed. As it is a facelift, the changes in terms of
design are concentrated in the front and rear. Some changes that allow the 208
to adapt to the new design language that Peugeot is applying to all its new
models.
The
front has been redesigned. It will have a different look depending on the
configured trim level. The renewed 208 will be available in Active, Allure, and
GT finishes. The grille and front bumper have undergone a major overhaul. Now,
the most striking element is, without a doubt, the new LED daytime running
lights that simulate the shape of three long claws. They are combined with
headlights that also use LED technology. By extending towards the ends of the
car, they help to enhance the feeling of solidity.
At the
rear, the novelties go through updated rear lights with a light signature in
line with that of the front light groups. By the way, we cannot ignore the fact
that the 208 now sports the new Peugeot logo and typography. A corporate
identity that the brand is progressively extending through its range of
passenger cars.
Peugeot
has seized the moment to incorporate new customization options. It debuts the
Yellow Agueda and Selenio Gray body colors. The wing mirror housings are glossy
black. In the GT finish, a two-tone option is available with a black roof to
create contrast. New tires have also been added. The new e-208 will be
available with 16-inch and 17-inch wheels.

The
interior and technology of the new Peugeot 208 2024
Leaving
the exterior aside, if we enter the interior of the new 208 we will quickly
find ourselves surrounded by a digital and connected environment. In the Allure
and GT versions, we will find a new 10-inch digital instrument panel. The Active
version retains the analog box with a 3.5-inch color multi-information screen.
The
multifunction steering wheel incorporates the new GT emblem in its center. By
the way, the manual versions come with a new knob for the gear lever. The
"powerhouse" of the interior is a 10-inch touch screen. A key component
to drive the new infotainment system. The less-equipped versions have a 7-inch
touchscreen.
Depending
on the finish, the 208 will present the Peugeot i-Connect infotainment system
or the Peugeot i-Connect Advanced system. It offers compatibility with Android
Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition, it allows access to an extended list of
online digital services. As we have pointed out, the new 208 is a connected
car.
Among
the equipment, there are also USB connections, the 360º vision camera, an
ambient lighting system with new colors, and a wireless charger for compatible
mobile phones. As for the finishing options for the passenger compartment,
Peugeot has added a new black Alcantara upholstery with Adamite Green
stitching. It is available as an option for the GT finish.
The
list of driving assistance systems is very extensive. You can equip, among
other technologies, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function,
automatic emergency braking, expanded traffic sign recognition, active lane
departure alert, driver attention alert, and blind spot monitoring.
The
electrified engines of the new Peugeot 208 2024
Regarding
the mechanical section, there are also changes. And very important. The 100 hp
1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine is no longer available and, therefore, the new 208
will be marketed exclusively with gasoline and electric motors. In addition,
the arrival in the range of 48-volt light hybrid technology (MHEV)
materializes. A technology that ultimately represents the arrival on the scene
of versions with an ECO label.
Peugeot
has announced two Hybrid versions with MHEV technology. There is a 100 CV model
and a higher 136 CV model. Both with a PureTech gasoline engine and a new
six-speed e-DCS6 automatic transmission. The brand places special emphasis on
the fact that it has the ability to drive in electric mode in certain
situations and for a specific period of time.
The new
208 will also be marketed with conventional gasoline engines. The 75 hp 1.2
PureTech engine will be offered with a five-speed manual transmission and, at a
higher level, there will be a 100 hp 1.2 PureTech engine combined with a
six-speed manual transmission.
The
100% electric variant, the new Peugeot e-208, remains on offer. Something
logical, since it was the best-selling B-segment electric car in Europe in
2022. The new e-208 is equipped with a 51 kWh lithium-ion battery. The stored
energy is used to power a 115 kW (156 hp) motor. The autonomy of the new
electric 208 is 400 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.
As for
the charging times, they will vary depending on the electrical outlet used. The
first thing to note is that the renewed e-208 is equipped with a 7.4 kW
single-phase onboard charger as standard. Optionally you can equip an 11 kW
three-phase charger. Using a 100 kW fast charging point, you will need less
than 30 minutes to complete the recharging process from 20% to 80%.
