Seres,
the Chinese brand of electric vehicles, begins its journey alone. And the
renewed Seres 3 is the first model that sees the light of day independently.
Until now it was marketed in Spain under the DFSK umbrella, although it will
continue to be linked to the 23 dealers of the latter until it has its own
sales and assistance network. Of course, nobody should worry because the
guarantee of their models covers 8 years or 150,000 kilometers at all times.
The
transition towards the 'independence' of Seres is reminiscent, in a certain
way, of Cupra with Seat. The idea of the Chinese manufacturer is to offer a
kind of accessible Premium brand, that is, to mark distances with respect to
DFSK with higher quality vehicles. The Seres 3 is the first, and although it is
finished off more rigorously, it is still far from what the brand expects to
offer with its own releases, such as the Seres 5 that will arrive in the fall.
Measurements
of the renovated Seres 3
We had
the opportunity to test the renewed Seres 3 to draw conclusions. It is an SUV
4.39 meters long, 1.85 wide, and 1.65 high that fits into the compact segment
with a rather aerodynamic and somewhat sporty design.
The
ground clearance is 18 centimeters and beyond the fact that the front and the
standard LED headlights remind us of a Peugeot model, the truth is that it
conflicts with a large number of rivals, such as the SsangYong Korando
E-Motion, BYD Atto 3, Kia e-Niro, MG ZS EV or Peugeot E-2008.
Range of
331 kilometers
The
Seres 3 mounts a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that yields 163 CV
(120 kW) of power and approves a range of 331 kilometers thanks to a 54.3 kWh
capacity battery. Precisely the battery is lithium-fluorophosphate because, according
to the manufacturer, it is cheaper and has a longer useful life. It should be
noted that Seres boasts of the development, manufacture, and marketing of all
its vehicles, something to be valued.
The
battery recharge time varies between 8 hours on an 11 kW socket and 17 it
takes on a 3.7 kW household socket. It also supports direct current loads of up
to 100 kW. Thus it is achieved that in just 30 minutes up to 80 percent of the
energy can be charged. The maximum speed of the Seres 3 is 155 km/h, it
accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and approves an average
consumption of 17.7 kWh per 100 kilometers.
The
interior of the Seres 3 is spacious and pleasant. It doesn't live up to what
you'd expect from a premium vehicle, but it's finished off with care, with
soft, pleasant materials, and leather as the highlight. The driver's seat has
up to 6 electrical adjustments and boasts details such as keyless comfort
access or a practicable panoramic roof.
The
presentation is completely digital. It uses two 10.25-inch screens each. One is
configurable and acts as a dashboard; the other, floating, is located on the
dashboard and integrates functions such as navigation, Bluetooth, or the
infotainment system. The graphics are clear, but perhaps too 'simple'.
The trunk of Beings 3
Yes, it
is spacious in terms of habitability and practicality, although the rear bench
is fixed. The trunk, for its part, offers 310 liters of capacity. It does not
break records in this regard, but it offers a spare wheel under the floor.
The
chassis of the Seres 3 is supported by an independent McPherson strut at the
front and a torsion bar at the rear. It mounts disc brakes on all four wheels
and 18-inch wheels. The traction is front.
We got
behind the wheel of the renewed Seres 3 for a few hours, enough to verify that
the suspension is friendly, that is, comfortable for what is customary in an
electric vehicle that weighs 1,765 kilos with the clothes on. The steering is
not overly assisted and has a driving assistant that allows you to choose
between the ECO, Comfort, and Sport profiles, varying the steering and engine
parameters. In ECO the power is reduced.
The
screen on the dashboard is wide, but it is very wide. It is not in line with
vertical formats, which are more useful when browsing. It is a pleasant,
comfortable vehicle, with very acceptable performance and sufficient autonomy,
although it is inferior to most of its rivals in this regard. We didn't like
the tires that Chao Yang rides too much.
Equipment
and price of the Seres 3
Yes,
the Seres 3 shines with its own light in the standard equipment section. This
model debuts with the top Luxury finish, which includes standard elements
such as front and rear parking sensors, hill start assistant, a 360-degree
camera, a front camera that allows recording when moving, climate control, a panoramic sunroof, automatic emergency call, browser, adaptive cruise control,
lane keeping assistant, emergency braking with detection of pedestrians and
vehicles...
The
starting price of Seres 3 is 39,995 euros. If we discount the brand campaign,
the financing, the Moves Plan with scrap metal, and the personal income tax
deduction from that figure, the final invoice remains at 25,995 euros. Later
the Comfort entry finish will arrive, whose price will be around 22,000 euros.
