The Evolution of the Toyota Land Cruiser: A Look at the Final Design

One of the most emblematic SUVs, the Toyota Land Cruiser, is about to launch its generation. Before its official presentation, these recreations allow us to anticipate and know what its revamped exterior design inspired by the past will be like.

After nothing more and nothing less than 14 years on the market, with its relevant updates throughout this time, a new generation Toyota Land Cruiser is ready to officially arrive.

The Japanese brand has begun to 'warm up' the wait with new teasers. In one of them, we can see the new installment of the 4x4 confronted with what was the first generation of the Prado version that we know here in Europe.

However, it is the recreations that we present here, by the hand of Kolesa.ru, which best make us imagine what the renewed Toyota Land Cruiser will look like, which will follow in the footsteps of its 'brother' Lexus GX presented a few weeks ago.

New Toyota Land Cruiser: looking back

In the few advances that we have been able to give to the new generation of the Toyota Land Cruiser, we were already predicting that the Japanese brand wanted to return to the past in some way. And these recreations come to confirm that idea.

The new Land Cruiser will return to the square and angular shapes, very much in the style of the Lexux GX mentioned above, with which it shares the GA-F platform, with a robust construction of its body on a frame. Very cubic volumes, straight lines, muscular design… it will be the aesthetic DNA of the new generation.

In profile, both Japanese cars will be similar, but the big differences will be in the extremes. At the front, the new Land Cruiser will feature a very different grille from the one we know from the current generation, with large brand lettering, and thinner lights that follow the more angular patterns of the entire vehicle.

At the back, large vertically arranged optical groups and a tailgate that will dispense with the horizontal light strip are expected. In the mechanical issue, we can get little more than speculate with what we have seen in the latest models of the house and in the Lexus GX.

As in the latter, the arrival of the new 3.5-liter V6 turbocharged gasoline engine is expected, which develops 354 hp and 650 Nm. However, to replace the current 2.8-liter turbodiesel version, it is expected that a 2.4 gasoline hybrid block will enter the range, already announced for the GX, and which could be one of the protagonists of the Land Cruiser range.

Of course, the permanent 4x4 transmission will not be missing, with a Torsen-type limited-slip center differential (with optional rear differential lock), the new sports variable suspension also seen on the Lexus GX, as well as the availability of seven seats in its cabin.

To know details of the interior, we will have to wait for official information, but we can expect a significant qualitative leap compared to the outgoing Land Cruiser, with the latest technological innovations in connectivity and driving aids.

The updating and arrival of new rivals, such as the Ford Bronco, the Jeep Wrangler, the Ineos Grenadier and company, push Toyota to update its Land Cruiser, as they have already done with its 300 series, which will continue to present itself with the best qualities. off-road and adventurous, but without missing the comfort and versatility characteristic of the latest generations.
