The Bentley Bentayga is a luxury SUV, derived from the F segment, manufactured by Bentley since 2015. The first generation is currently on the market, although it was updated in June 2020 through a restyling. The Bentayga is characterized by offering an image of luxury and exclusivity at the highest level in its category, also adding a character with certain sporting overtones as is the case in all the brand's models. The Bentley Bentayga is manufactured at the Bentley-owned factory in Crewe, UK.
Among the models that aspire to rival the Bentayga, we find other luxury SUVs, among which the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Range Rover stand out, although we can also consider the Mercedes-Maybach GLS and the BMW X7.
In this in-depth special, you can see all the details about the Bentley Bentayga 2021.
The objective of the British is to make the Bentley Bentayga the most luxurious and distinguished SUV on the market.
Bentley created the Bentayga betting on the same level of luxury as its most important sedans: Flying Spur and Mulsanne, with the aim of making it the most luxurious SUV on the market. Essentially, this is a luxury limousine with an SUV body, a limousine that can also benefit from the Mulliner division to infinitely customize every detail of the car.
The exterior design of the Bentley
Bentayga
The exterior design of the Bentley Bentayga has an important classic charge in its aesthetics, full of well-known brushstrokes, although with a harmony that manages to hide the proportions of this huge SUV quite well. Enjoy a front with the clear stamp of the brand, with the grill presiding over its design, marked lines that mark the arrival of the rounded wheel arches, and a simple rear with a large double exhaust outlet. After its revision in 2020, the Bentayga modified its exterior aesthetics through a sportier image inspired by the Bentley MullinerBacalar.
As a peculiarity, the front brake discs are the largest ever offered in a production vehicle - with permission from the Lamborghini Urus, whose optional carbon ceramic braking system is identical. They are 440 mm in diameter and are mounted inside rims that are at least 22-23 inches in diameter.
Bentley Bentayga Engines
The Bentley Bentayga is marketed with 3 different engines: two gasoline and a plug-in hybrid.
The first gasoline engine is a powerful V8 with 550 hp and a huge maximum torque of 770 Nm, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and has a more agile behavior since the engine is something lighter. It is the same 4.0 V8 with two turbochargers that mount other cars like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo or the Lamborghini Urus.
The second gasoline option available is a 6.0 W12 Twin-Turbo under the name Speed, an engine that develops 635 HP of maximum power and 900 Nm of maximum torque. This variant represents the real ceiling of the Bentayga range, becoming the most sporty and performance option, coming to hold the consideration of the fastest SUV in the world. The Bentley Bentayga Speed is capable of reaching a top speed of 306 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
Finally, there is a plug-in hybrid, called the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid. This is Bentley's first plug-in hybrid, which acquires the technology of the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid (see Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid test). The Bentley Bentayga Hybrid debuts an unprecedented configuration for the brand, a powertrain that combines a 2.9 V6 Twin-Turbo gasoline engine with an electric drive. Thanks to a lithium-ion battery housed under the boot floor, the Bentayga is capable of reaching 39 kilometers of WLTP autonomy with each charge. In total, it offers a combined power of 450 hp with a maximum torque of 700 Nm. More information about the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid.
For a short period of time, a diesel engine was available, a 435 hp 4.0 V8 TDI. It was the first diesel Bentley in history (see Bentley Bentayga Diesel test). The V8 TDI had a propeller supercharged by two twin-scroll turbochargers and was supported by a third electric compressor. The diesel Bentley Bentayga developed an incredible 900Nm of peak torque, constant between 1,000rpm and 3,250rpm. Thanks to this engine, the diesel Bentayga did 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, had a top speed of 270 km/h, and an official average fuel consumption of 7.3l/100 km. In March 2018, Bentley halted sales of its diesel Bentayga as a result of the Dieselgate scandal.
Bentley Bentayga interior design
While the exterior design seems classic, inside the Bentley Bentayga we find a completely new driving position and the latest technology, even more so since its update in 2020. It is a qualitative leap of several generations that make the Bentley Bentayga at the top of the market.
The interior of the Bentley Bentayga has details as modern as a mode selector, integrated into the start button itself. It also includes a 12.3″ digital instrument panel, as well as an infotainment system with a 10.9″ touch screen and a head-up display system. They are not surprising technologies, but they are remarkable in a classic manufacturer. A style that can be seen in a multitude of details in the cockpit, with numerous nods to other cars in Bentley's history. But if there is one point that stands out greatly inside the Bentayga, it is the degree of manufacturing quality and materials used, finding exquisite care down to the smallest detail.
In the rear seats, you can equip
tablet-type devices, with the Android operating system and 10.2 screen, as
entertainment and video playback equipment, which also has wireless headphones
and, of course, an internet connection. The Bentayga is available in
configurations of four, five, or seven seats, with infinite adjustment
possibilities, and different massage, heating, or ventilation functions. The trunk has
a volume of 430 liters.
Like great eccentricities, the Bentley Bentayga can be ordered with a set of accessories for falconry, with a complete picnic kit made to match the interior finish and even with a 200,000-euro automatic Breitling watch that we can place between the two central nozzles of the dashboard.
How's the Bentley Bentayga doing?
The most significant regarding its dynamics is the new 48-volt electrical system, which allows the Bentley Active Ride adaptive suspension to be equipped with pneumatic damping and active stabilizers, which counteracts the inclination of the car in curves and adjusts the hardness in real-time. of the dampers. This adaptive suspension is air, so the ground clearance is variable, something especially useful for off-road driving modes.
The Bentley Bentayga is surprised by the quality of rolling that it has, regardless of the firm. Its poise is truly spectacular and it even enjoys a certain "agility" thanks to the excellent work of its active chassis.
In Diariomotor, we have had the opportunity to do a test of the Bentley Bentayga W12 and another test of the Diesel Bentley Bentayga: drive them, analyze their interiors, and see how they are doing.
What does the name Bentayga mean?
Regarding its name, Bentley
acknowledges that the origins of the name Bentayga are twofold. On the one
hand, Bentayga is a very famous rock formation in Gran Canaria. On the other
hand, the sound and the play on words, between Bentley, and those leafy forests
of the North called the terrestrial taiga, encouraged those responsible for the
brand to choose this name (more information on the name of the Bentley
Bentayga).
