Exploring the Stylish Exterior of the Kia Sorento: What's New?

After having met the new Hyundai Santa Fe a few days ago, the truth is that the announcement of this updated Kia Sorento has left us somewhat cold. And it is that the Korean company has decided to update its sensational SUV without breaking the mold as has happened with its brother. In spite of everything, this future Kia Sorento points out ways, earns points and surely it comes loaded with news and the odd surprise.

Three years have passed since the fourth generation of the Kia Sorento was launched on the market, a sensational SUV that is now making improvements to face its second half of life. The first thing that attracts attention in this updated Kia Sorento is its front, where the designers have transferred the forms of the electrifying Kia EV9. In this electric SUV, they also seem to have been inspired when it comes to shaping its 'T-shaped light groups and are always equipped with LED technology.

It is an update of the Kia Sorento

The emblem of the Korean company disappears from its front grill, occupying the most forward part of the hood. A new grill has also been designed, a cooling intake for its bumper, new fog lights... And depending on the finish, this metallic-looking skid plate could arrive.

Since we are talking about an update, it is logical that the silhouette of this renewed Kia Sorento is practically traced to that of its predecessor. It is true that new designs for its tires will arrive, as well as new colors for its bodywork. For its part, the rear receives fewer changes than the front, limited to new graphics for the LED lights and bumpers with new shapes.

The interior has also been retouched

The designers of the Korean company have also worked on the interior of this renewed Kia Sorento. Although the cabin has a familiar design, the truth is that the bulky ventilation outlets have given way to much more discreet ones, whereas the central ones have allowed the arrival of a larger central screen than the current one. This also seems to be better connected to its digital instrument panel.

The air conditioning controls have also been replaced by the usual bar that was released by the Kia EV6 and adopted by other models such as the Niro. This touch bar has the particularity of showing the controls for the air conditioning and the sound system. For its part, the center console seems to have no changes, integrating the gear selector (all Kia Sorento have automatic gearbox), the driving mode selector, different holes... And the new colors for the cabin round off the game called Interstellar Grey, Volcanic S, Brown, and Cityscape Green.

Could the current engines be kept in this Kia Sorento?

Since we are talking about an update, it is logical to think that the exterior dimensions of this new Kia Sorento will not differ excessively from the current one, which we remember is 4.81 meters long, 1.90 meters wide, and 1.70 meters high. Nor will the 2,815-millimeter wheelbase change, which will possibly be the ones that the new Hyundai Santa Fe will reach, because we remember that the Korean house said that the battle of its new generation would increase from the current 2,765 millimeters.

With all this, you can be sure that this renewed Kia Sorento will continue to be available with a seven-seat configuration, in the same way, that it could maintain its current range of engines, where there is a diesel version with 197 hp, as well as two electrified options: hybrid and plug-in hybrid.

With ECO and 0 emission versions

These last two use a 1.6 T-GDI gasoline engine, associated with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery, more corpulent in the case of the PHEV (this goes from 1.49 to 13.8 kWh of capacity to reach 57 kilometers of electric range and get the DGT '0 emissions' label). With this they erogan 230 and 265 CV of power respectively, being currently available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The latter is standard on PHEVs and optional on HEVs.

But all the details of this updated Kia Sorento will be revealed next August when the largest combustion SUV offered in Europe by the Korean house is fully revealed.
