The
Macbor Montana XR1 125 has proven to have everything a trail adventure may
require under its umbrella, which is not a small thing considering that we are
dealing with a 125... We analyze its price and that of its most direct rivals.
Macbor
was right, in 2017 with the launch of that first Montana XR1, for a segment of
the 125 where the "pure" trail had practically disappeared. It
proved, through sales, that there were customers interested in such a bike and
this led other brands to offer their own interpretations of the concept. Thus,
the new Macbor Montana XR1 125 2023 will have more and tougher rivals.
But
even if it reaches a market with more contenders, the truth is that Macbor
brings an interesting offer. The new Montana XR1 125, with a water engine and a
four-valve cylinder head, has equipment that is difficult to match, including
even trail-type cases in the price. The bike, available in four colors (red,
yellow, white, and black), starts at €3,799.
Within
the 125 gears, logically you have almost all kinds of off-road motorcycles,
from pure enduro, through trial, "soft-enduro" such as the Aprilia
RX 125 and the Mondial SMX Enduro 125, or motorcycles as special as the Rieju
Tango or a few retro-style scramblers that, with knobby tires, can offer some
off-road capabilities.
But
Macbor has always had clear ideas and they have focused on offering a
"pure" trail, unequivocally adventure style. And if that's what
you're looking for, the following bikes are the real rivals to the 2023 Montana
XR 1 125.
Macbor
Montana XR1 125: Adventure Rivals
One of
the most interesting is the Hanway G15 125 Adventure. In Hanway, having seen
the success of the Roya Enfield Himalayan in the trail socks segment, they saw
that this philosophy was perfectly transferable to the 125, and with a very
similar aesthetic, they designed this G15. A powerful motorcycle, 15 CV, with a
sports engine that delivers power at 10,000 rpm, with a 19″ front wheel on
stock rims, and that costs €3,689.
The
Malaguti Dune 125 X Black Edition presents itself as a trail bike with a
similar style, with the classic "duck bill" and other stylistic
resources typical of the segment. It is equipped with a 13 CV engine, standard
fork, and spoked wheels, with an 18″ front. Its price is €4,099.
Another
similar motorcycle comes from the national market. The Rieju Aventura 125
offers a motorcycle with modern lines for which power is not declared, but
which is equipped with a modern water engine and short stroke with dimensions
similar to the Macbor, although showing a lower level of equipment. The Rieju
is at €4,199.
MH, the
classic Spanish Motor Hispania, also has a motorcycle in its catalog that can
participate in this confrontation. In his case, it would be the MH Tray 125 and a price of €3,695, on a more asphalt-cut motorcycle, with exhaust from
below, with one of those road platforms "transformed" to this
aesthetic.
The UM
Motorcycles DSR Adventure TT Gran Tourer is a motorcycle that uses the old
platform that was developed for the Derbi Senda 125 and that is presented with
a similar level of equipment to the Macbor: it brings suitcases, in this case, Shad with a more urban style than the trail. With a water engine and two camshafts,
it delivers 14 CVs. It comes out at €4,330.
A very
similar approach and surely the closest to the Macbor is that of the Motron
X-Nord 125 Touring. For €3,899 we find a motorcycle that is also offered with
suitcases, alloy wheels, and 13 CVs and that is born from the same platform that
was used in the previous Macbor XR1.
We
found the cheapest offer in the MITT 125 TK Adventure. It only costs €2,995 and
offers a mix of styles between purely trail riding and a lighter, enduro-style
bike. With 13 CV and 17″ wheels, its best asset is modern and pleasant lines
with a successful drawing.
And
finally, another original motorcycle. The Asian brand Zontes has stood out so
far for being out of the ordinary and in this case it also complies with a different
and original motorcycle, with very high technological equipment, a cutting-edge
15 CV engine, and an aesthetic that mixes trail with sport and a high seat cowl.
The Zontes U-1 125 LCD also has another strong point in its price, 3,587 euros.
