This two-wheeled SUV is a hybrid between trail and scooter and, at 3.6 l/100 km, frugal for its performance

In the world of two wheels, and as also happens in automobiles, the traditional segments have blurred and it is increasingly difficult to classify a product. Luckily, this situation opens up a huge range of possibilities for drivers, who have more alternatives than ever to find our ideal car or motorcycle that best suits our needs.

The SUV phenomenon is increasingly present in the motorcycle sector. And the best example is before us: the true two-wheeled SUV is called Honda X-ADV.

A peculiar hybrid between maxi-trail and scooter that promises to be comfortable and attractive in the city, but also competent off-road, and which is now being updated to receive the pertinent additions and improvements expected from an annual review.

The true two-wheeled SUV

That of Honda, without a doubt, is a new approach in the world of motorcycles. On the streets, more and more scooters with a country concept and SUVs abound, with a robust aesthetic and suspensions, tires, and brakes, designed to get off the asphalt. Trail-type bikes are also plentiful, capable, or very capable, off-road, but also attractive to a legion of followers who will use them for their daily urban commutes and road trips most of the time.

The Honda X-ADV comes with the promise of being much more capable off-road than other SUV-type scooters. And in fact, it recovers the more adventurous heritage of Honda and its Africa Twin range. But its scooter-type concept continues to make it a motorcycle that is more than suitable, and comfortable, for the needs of urban mobility and road trips.

Two special editions and a new color option are new to this bike for 2024.

A powerful and competent SUV

With a 43.1 kW liquid-cooled 8-valve twin-cylinder engine, designed to maximize low-end torque, which reaches 69 Nm from 4,750 rpm, and two inertial balancers and a 270º crankshaft, as in the Africa Twin, it is a motorcycle designed to perform on the road and on gravel sections.

It has, as it could not be less, a limited series version of 35 kW for the A2 card. And with a consumption of 3.6 liters and a tank of 13.2 liters, it is a frugal motorcycle for its benefits and enjoys a theoretical autonomy of 366 kilometers.

An SUV, with all of the law

To all this, it is important to add:

  • An electronic accelerator with 4 predefined driving modes, selectable from the left-hand cluster, including Standard, Sport, Rain, Gravel, and a customizable User mode, which adjust power delivery, but also engine braking, shifting aggressiveness, selectable torque control intervention, and ABS intervention, to adapt to each type of terrain
  • The selectable torque control has 3 intervention modes, also selectable, increasing the intervention or allowing controlled skidding, and what we could define as a 4 mode that is nothing other than its total deactivation
  • It also has a dual-clutch gearbox, which allows the aggressiveness of the gearbox to be adjusted to suit the driver or in parallel with the predefined modes for the electronic accelerator.

With all this, long-travel suspension, 165mm of ground clearance, knobby tires, and 17-inch front and 15-inch rear wheels, the Honda X-ADV wants to maximize its possibilities both on and off the road.
