The Citroën Ë-C4 X
is the electric version of this model that has a Spanish passport. It was born
at the Villaverde plant (Madrid) and shares a platform with the successful
Citroën C4. Also its technology, including this electric version with 136 CV
that we have tested. Beyond its efficiency, this model is extremely original,
mixing concepts of saloon, crossover, and coupe... But if we have to define it, we
will say that it is a sedan.
At the turn of the
summer, this model will reinforce its position in the market with the launch of
a second electric version with 156 CV, a 54 kWh battery, and a range that covers
up to 420 kilometers on a single charge. It will be the most 'sophisticated' of
the range and is exclusively associated with the Shine top finish. We'll talk
about it in September when we attend its international presentation with the
French brand.
However, this
access version in question remains tremendously competitive. It yields 136 CV
of power and 280 Nm of maximum torque and its 50 kWh capacity battery allows it
to approve a range of up to 360 kilometers. These are figures that cover the
needs of a large part of drivers to move regularly in the big city and its
surroundings.
And it has the
extra attraction that we save no less than 3,700 euros compared to the most
powerful version. It costs 39,015 euros, but if we apply discounts it stays at
36,815 euros and we would still have to apply the Moves Plan aid.
It is also true
that the price reflects, in addition to its technical 'inferiority', a less
generous endowment. The reason is that the 136 CV version is only associated
with the Feel entry finish, which is also very complete, but less generous in
the list of standard items.
Citroën Ë-C4 X
measurements
Let's go with our
protagonist. Beyond values such as efficiency, this model responds to a very
original format, so much so that it is difficult to find direct rivals. In
fact, as an electric sedan with this appearance and 4.60 meters in length,
there is nothing similar.
The Citroën Ë-C4 X
responds immediately when stepping on the accelerator and is very refined and
comfortable to use. It offers more than remarkable performance for what is
expected of a vehicle of this profile. The top speed is limited to 150 km/h and
it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10 seconds.
Consumption and
autonomy of the Citroën Ë-C4 X
If we analyze its
consumption, we have seen figures that range between 13.4 kWh in the city and
17.5 outside of it. The average consumption during the test was 16.4 kWh per
100 kilometers, a very attractive figure that will allow us to drive about 300
real kilometers between recharges. The average approved by the brand is 15.0
kWh.
The 50 kWh capacity
battery supports direct current charges of up to 100 kW. That will allow us to
feed it up to 80% in just half an hour, for example, if we are halfway on a
long journey.
Let's say that this
is the exception for specific moments. The normal thing is that we charge it at
home in alternating current and here the time options vary between 15 hours in
a 3.7 kW socket, 7 and a half hours in a 7.4 kW socket, or only 5 hours in a 3.7
kW socket. 11 kW.
Behind the wheel of
the Citroën Ë-C4, everything is peace, concord, and comfort. It is silent due to
its electrical condition, although it is not the height of soundproofing when
we go through a type of 'rough' asphalt that is not in perfect condition. At
that time the decibels are more evident.
Performance and
dynamics of the Citroën Ë-C4 X
The performance is
good. They are 136 CV, but sometimes they seem more, especially when starting
the first meters. The reason is that the vehicle responds immediately to any
throttle request due to the instantaneous delivery of engine torque. In
addition, it does not break badly, although the weight of the battery is noticeable.
They are 1,659 kilos in total with what is on, and it shows. Perhaps the least
pleasant thing in progress is the feel of the brake pedal, which is not as
progressive as we would like.
Its excellent comfort is
striking, thanks to progressive hydraulic shock absorbers that Citroën
incorporates in its latest releases. It gives the feeling of going more
established than the thermal versions. This is due to the location of the
battery in the underbody of the vehicle, an aspect that reduces the center of
gravity. In any case, when we go through a curve, miracles do not exist, and
the body sways. The inertias are there. Our unit's tires are 195/60 R18 and it
has four disc brakes, the front ones are ventilated.
The best thing
about this model is its excellent ride comfort. The suspension swallows any
irregularity with a naturalness that scares. In this sense, it is one of the
best options in the segment, without a doubt, despite the fact that due to its
weight, we have made some 'cap' in the cushioning than another. The pleasant
touch of elements such as the steering, quite assisted, also helps. With 2.75
turns of the wheel between locks, it does not seem too direct, but it is very
pleasant on a day-to-day basis.
The driving
assistant allows us to choose between ECO, Normal, and Sport modes. They are not
radical dynamic changes, but they are noticeable in the power delivery. It is
in Sport mode that the Citroën Ë-C4 X offers maximum performance.
There are no
paddles on the steering wheel to be able to manage the intensity of the
regenerative braking as in other models, but it does have a 'Brake' function in
the automatic transmission that multiplies the intensity of the aforementioned
regenerative braking. It is so 'aggressive' that on many occasions it turns the
brake pedal almost into an ornament. If we use this function wisely, we will
considerably stretch the autonomy of the vehicle.
Citroën Ë-C4 X
interior
Now let's look at
the cabin. It is within expectations, due to the rigor of the finishes and its
digital presentation, among other things because we already knew it in the C4.
And it is a carbon copy of this one. The dashboard is only 5 inches in size. It
is the current trend, but it is true that it remains somewhat small. Perhaps
not in this electric version, but in the thermal versions that need to expand
the information with the speed of rotation, coolant temperature, and oil
pressure...
The dashboard touchscreen doubles in size to 10 inches. It surrounds itself with a strong load of
information, it is intuitive and it is located in a suitable position. Below
are the air vents, and even lower down are the controls that manage the air
conditioning. It is appreciated that they remain off-screen.
Finally, comment on
the glove box on the front passenger side. Original and practical like a few
others, it consists of several solutions for fixing mobile devices and has a
large drawer below.
In front, we will go
like kings. The reason is the seats are called Advanced Comfort, which has a
softness similar to that of an armchair at home. In addition, the driver
increases its appeal with details such as an electric lumbar adjustment and
massage function.
Rear room and trunk
Behind the legroom
is considerable and has air vents, although the central tunnel is too bulky for
what is customary in an electric car. In this sense, it must be remembered that
it shares a platform with the thermal versions.
Yes, it shines with
its own light in the trunk. It offers 510 liters, which is a very considerable
volume. The only 'but' is that its design opts for a 'lid' instead of a gate
and that reduces practicality when introducing bulky objects.
In the
technological section related to connectivity, note that it includes the My
Citroën application, there are solutions such as managing or programming the
battery recharging functions from the mobile. It also includes Android Auto and
Apple CarPlay connectivity.
In its standard
equipment with the Feel Pack finish, it offers automated emergency braking,
electric parking brake, safety pack, 7.4 kW single-phase on-board charger,
dual-zone climate control, 18-inch crosslight diamond-coated alloy wheels, rear
parking sensors, rearview camera, mode 3 -22 kW power cable, electric style
pack, Full LED headlights, electrically adjustable and folding exterior
mirrors, driver fatigue alert, hill start assist, lane change alert, parking
control cruise with speed limiter, signal recognition, driving mode selector or
Mirror Screen with Android Auto and Apple Car Play.
Definitely
In short, its particular format
and its electrical condition mean that it is not easy to find direct rivals.
And that is always a plus point. This entry version of the Citroën Ë-C4 X
offers sufficient performance and autonomy for the vast majority of users who
regularly move around the city and its surroundings. To its efficiency, we must
add its great driving comfort and its generous trunk.
