Unveiled the new Mitsubishi L200 2024, the Asian pick-up launches a generation far from Europe

The new Mitsubishi L200 2024 has been presented. The sixth generation of the Mitsubishi pick-up is already a reality. A model that makes its debut far from Europe under the name Triton and that debuts a long list of innovations that go far beyond a simple change in exterior design.

After a remarkable amount of spy photos and even official previews, we can say that the wait is over. The new Mitsubishi L200 has been presented in society. The Mitsubishi pick-up launches a new generation loaded with novelties. A generational change that makes its debut far from European borders under the trade name Triton. It is the name by which the L200 is known outside of Europe.

It arrived at dealerships in 1978 and after almost half a century of history, Mitsubishi has produced approximately 5.6 million units of its medium-sized pick-up. It is marketed globally in 150 countries. The sixth generation of the L200 bursts onto the scene at a key moment for the automotive industry in the main markets.

The design of the new Mitsubishi L200 2024

Based on the "Power of Adventure" concept, the brand highlights that all the elements and components of the L200 (or Triton) have been completely reinvented, from the interior and exterior design to the chassis and engine. Just take a quick look at the images that illustrate this article to discover how it has changed compared to the model that we can still find in dealerships. In addition, it was anticipated through the Mitsubishi XRT Concept.

It will be available in Double Cabin, Club Cabin, and Single Cabin variants. It has been developed following the “Dynamic Shield” design philosophy. A concept is especially evident on the front. The grill and bumper help convey a more robust and strong image. Mention must also be made of the new headlights and, more specifically, the LED lights for daytime driving.

The side view reveals the essence of this model. At the rear, the most relevant elements are, without a doubt, the taillights in the shape of the letter T. As for the customization options, different colors will be available for the bodywork and, depending on the configured version, the chrome will have more or less weight on the outside. We cannot ignore the orange color Yamabuki Orange.

The interior and technology of the new Mitsubishi L200 2024

Leaving the exterior aside, if we go inside the new L200 we will quickly be enveloped by a very characteristic atmosphere. It is a more digital and connected vehicle. However, not everything has been bet on digitalization as it happens with other competing models.

The instrument panel is not completely digital as it has analog dials that are combined with a large multi-information screen. The "nerve center" of the cabin is a new touch screen. A key component to drive the infotainment system.

The list of driving assistance systems is very extensive. The new L200 is equipped, among other technologies, with adaptive cruise control, a forward collision mitigation system, blind-spot warning with lane change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.

The diesel engines of the new Mitsubishi L200 2024

Regarding the mechanical section, the new L200 bets everything on diesel and, for now, avoids electrification. The "heart" of the new range is a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. It is available in three power levels. On the access step, we find the model with 150 hp and 330 Nm of maximum torque. As an intermediate option is the motorization of 184 CV and 430 Nm. And as a more performance alternative, crowning the offer, is the 204 CV and 470 Nm model respectively.

All engines can be mated to either a manual gearbox or an automatic transmission. Both with six speeds and always with 4x4 traction. There are two four-wheel drive systems, Super Select 4WD-II, and Easy Select 4WD. The first of them features a central limited-slip differential that sends 40% of the power to the front axle and the remaining 60% to the rear. This system has 2H, 4H, 4HLc, and 4LLc operating modes. In addition, a driving mode selector allows you to choose between Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock profiles.

It will soon be launched commercially in other countries in Southeast Asia and Oceania. In Japan, it will go on sale in 2024. At the moment there are no details about when it will arrive in Europe.
