The
Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the SUVs par excellence: an icon on wheels that
is about to launch a new generation. He is a true survivor, with more than 70
years behind him and more than 10 million units sold.
All
this taking into account that it is one of the few Toyotas that has not
succumbed to hybrid fashion: it only offers a diesel engine with more than 200
hp. Although the new one will be. And no, it has not mutated into an SUV, despite
the fact that the Japanese have worked to make it more comfortable on the road.
The
cheapest Land Cruiser starts at just over 51,000 euros with the current offer.
It's not that it's cheap in absolute terms, but putting it in context with
current prices things change. Today we find compact cars that already widely
exceed 40,000 euros if they are electric. And even if they are not, it is very
difficult to find them below 30,000 euros. Not to mention that simple utilities
are already around 20,000.
An
off-road man, but comfortable and functional
The
Land Cruiser is an all-wheel drive, with ingredients that make offroad its
favorite terrain. But as we were able to verify when we put ourselves at the
controls, on asphalt it is equally comfortable and comfortable. Among other
things, due to its AVS adaptive air suspension or the KDSS (Kinetic Dynamic)
system, which makes you forget that it sits on a traditional chassis with spars.
It's
not that it's small, almost 5.0 m long, but thanks to a good turning radius it
minimizes its wingspan to move around town or maneuver with it.

And as
for its habitability, thanks to a wheelbase of almost 2.80 m, it is plenty. At
least with two rows of seats: it is a five-seater, although optionally (for an
additional 1,500 euros) we can add another two seats. The knee room in the second
row ranges from 33 cm to 20 cm depending on how we adjust the front seats.
It is
not so much so in the optional seats, but this is common in the seven-seater.
Although in the Land Cruiser, we have the addition of height, which complicates
access as we also verified in our test.
The
most powerful Land Cruiser. After its update a couple of years ago, the Toyota
Land Cruiser went on to mount a 2.8-liter diesel engine that yields 204 hp and
420 Nm: it is the highest delivery it has ever equipped. It moves almost two
tons, so it's not like it's an arrow. Nor does it pretend: its maximum is 175
km/h and it takes more than 12 seconds to do 0-100.
Likewise,
we are not talking about a lighter, of course: its consumption in the mixed
cycle is 9.6 l/100 km. This is with the manual box and in the GX base finish.
Although with the automatic it does not vary much either: 9.5 l/100 km.
Although
it goes well on the road and its cabin is very well soundproofed, it obviously
stands out for its off-road capabilities. It has a 31º angle of attack, and
ventral and departure angles of 25º and 22º respectively. Its ground clearance
is a maximum of 21.5 cm (we can adjust it with its pneumatic suspension) and it
promises wading of up to 70 cm.
What
equips the cheapest Toyota Land Cruiser?
Despite
the fact that the GX finish is the base, we are talking about a car of more
than 50,000 euros. So, already in this version, the Toyota Land Cruiser, its
equipment is quite complete.
The
standard steel wheels are 17 inches and it has halogen headlights, but the
daytime and rear lights are LED. Also comfort elements such as electric folding
mirrors (which are heated), automatic lights and wipers, keyless access and
starting, lumbar adjustment for the driver's seat, hill start assistant, or
electrochromic rear-view mirror
And at
the technology level, we find a nine-inch touch display, which integrates the
Toyota Touch multimedia system, with intelligent voice assistant and connection
for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (with cable). It is not the most complete
version, so it does not integrate a browser.
As for
assistance systems, it is more focused on the country's spirit. Of the usual
technologies we only find automatic emergency braking with a detector of
cyclists and pedestrians or cruise control. But add stability control, active
traction control, and trailer sway control.
Under
the boot floor includes a spare wheel. Something that is not common in Toyota
models and in new cars in general.
From
51,400 euros, if we finance
The
Toyota Land Cruiser in a five-door body and in its most basic finish sets its
price at 56,400 euros, without discounts and paying in cash. But with the
current promotion and if we finance with Toyota, it is offered for 51,400
euros.
We are
talking about a C label and its price is partly more expensive due to its
emissions: 250 g/km of CO₂. It is in the highest section of the registration
tax since 14.75% is applied to it.
Financing
for seven years, it sets the monthly fee at around 638 euros and the entry is
12,850 euros. This is with Toyota's flexible financing program that, in addition
to being able to change or return it when reaching the final, includes four
years of official maintenance.
Beyond
its price, if what you are looking for is a robust, reliable SUV that is also
spacious and comfortable with up to seven seats, the Land Cruiser currently has
few rivals on the market.
